Operated intensity comprises total Scope 1 and 2 emissions divided by total sent out generation of electricity generation facilities which fit within AGL’s operated boundary. Operational control is as defined by the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007.

Controlled intensity comprises total Scope 1 and 2 emissions divided by total sent out generation of electricity generation facilities which fit within AGL’s controlled boundary. AGL’s controlled boundary includes all electricity assets for which AGL has: operational control as defined by the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007; and/or contracted rights to control the dispatch of electricity of the asset.

Operated and contracted intensity comprises total Scope 1 and 2 emissions divided by total sent out generation of electricity generation facilities which fit within AGL’s operated and contracted boundary. AGL’s operated and contracted boundary includes any grid connected electricity asset (generation or storage asset excluding behind the meter assets): a) which AGL has operational or financial control of, as defined by the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007; or b) in respect of which AGL has virtual or physical offtake or nomination rights, in proportion to AGL's share of such rights.

Greenhouse gas emissions have generally been calculated in accordance with methodologies under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007.

Electricity generation is measured on a 'sent-out' basis at the power station gate.

Average market intensity is the weighted average Carbon Dioxide Equivalent Intensity Index of the National Electricity Market, as determined from data published by AEMO.

Greenhouse gas emissions include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulphur hexafluoride (as applicable).

The operated and contracted intensity of generation metric replaces the previously reported controlled generation intensity metric. The boundary has been adjusted to better reflect delivery of our target to add 5 GW new renewable generation and firming capacity by 2030.

FY24 emissions data is estimated based on material fuels and will be finalised in November 2024.
