AGL's material Scope 3 emissions for FY24 were relatively consistent with FY23 overall. An increase in Scope 3 emissions from the supply of electricity to customers was driven by an increase in electricity AGL purchased and sold to customers in NSW. Decreased emissions from the end use of natural gas by customers was driven by lower gas sales volumes in FY24. Scope 3 emissions from the end use of coal sold to Loy Yang B have increased slightly due to increased coal sales from Loy Yang Mine to Loy Yang B Power Station. Other Scope 3 emissions data for FY24 will be finalised in 2025.

Notes

Supply of electricity to customers includes emissions associated with the transmission and distribution of electricity as well as from upstream activities including generation where AGL is short.

Emissions from generation for electricity produced by AGL and sold into energy markets is excluded from this footprint.

The calculation method for Scope 3 emissions associated with the supply of electricity to customers assumes that there is no interstate distribution of electricity generated by AGL and sold between states.

It is assumed that natural gas production, transmission and distribution, and combustion occur in the state and financial year in which gas is sold.

Sale of electricity and gas to ActewAGL (for supply to ActewAGL customers) is included as ActewAGL is a customer of AGL.

Supply of natural gas to customers includes emissions associated with the production, transportation and distribution of natural gas sold.

Annual Scope 3 emissions are estimated, and the calculation methods continue to evolve each year to improve accuracy. Calculation method changes have not been retrospectively applied.

Greenhouse gas emissions are rounded to the nearest 0.1 MtCO2e.
